Oh sweet, can't wait for the St.George's day event, and St.Andrew's. Must've missed the one for St.David ... Can't see Anet singling out one nations patron saint and not doing something for the rest can you? This must mean we've got plenty of events coming our way. Nice.

It's not for the Saint... it's for the celebration.

sigh... someone just had to complain... just enjoy the event, and as been mentioned a million times before, guildwars is a game made in america, thus american events.

Well, the watered down modern celebration is the obvious one of drink, merriment and the wish for good luck.
Simple, elegant and fun.

St. Patricks day has become an international celebration. Regardless of if you think this is a good or a bad thing. Parades are held in almost every major city in the western world, and many in the east. When those other sait's days are celebrated in a similar way, I'm sure Anet will give them a fun little in-game recognition as well.

Please point me in the direction of where Anet has stated that we're celebrating St. Patrick.
The fact of the matter is that St. Patrick's Day is no longer just a religious holiday (like most holidays these days). That is what Anet is using. A stereotypical past time of drinking and luck, completely void of religion.

lol you are kidding right?
Same weekend as Saint Patrick's day, Shamrock, ale ... Think it's pretty much in your face isn't it?
Don't get me wrong. I'm going to enjoy the event. Quite looking forward to it. I just think it's silly to base game events on things like this. We could've just had a lucky weekend next week, with beer thrown in for good measure. Quite clearly tho it's aimed at celebrating St.Patrick (even is some can't see that). Still, it is a game so no harm done I suppose. Just a little thought should go into these things imo.

Just tested the Ale. It gives just 1 point of drunkeness. Works like all the other Ales.

St George is the patron saint of 5 countries. I'd say that was international. On the other hand, St Patrick is the patron saint of ONLY Ireland and Nigeria.

But when is the last time you have seen a St George parade in New York? Chicago? or seen an entire river turned *fill in whatever color is associated with him*?
This has nothing to do with St. Patrics day being an Irish holday, or even a religious holiday. It has everything to do with it being a holiday known all over the world.
Sorry to say, St. Patric just has a better PR team the St George.

So what? They have the Wintersday event around Christmas time and they don't call it Christmas. They had the Canthan New Year celebration at the same time as the Chinese New Year, but they didn't call it Chinese New Year. They didn't celebrate the same things for the same reason in game that we do in the real world for a reason. It is to be devoid of real world religion.
They're having this event at the same time as St. Patrick's Day celebration things, but they are not celebrating St. Patrick.

Are the clovers and ales....the only part of the event?Because it says on the announcement that players find a unique drop or two*counts* yep we got 2 new drops. I was actually looking forward to having a bigger event.

Go off topic more plz. Is it so hard for people to just enjoy stuff anymore? Not everything has to have some meaning in a silly game.

Best quote of the day!
For the griefers... Oh noes! A small weekend event for a well-known celebration, even if we don't what the celebration is for (besides the awesomeness of beer and the color green ).
If you're really that upset about this, I reckon you're taking this game just a tad bit too seriously. Please relax. Perhaps take off yer shoes and have some ale?
